There are three phases of competition
Interview valued at 50% of the score
Physical Fitness valued at 25% of the score
Evening Gown and onstage question valued at 25% of the score
Interview Attire
Contestants may wear a pant suit, skirt suit, jumpsuit, or a nice business style dress. 50% of your score is based on how well you show the judges your ability to articulate, show confidence, as well as your overall personality and appearance.
Interview with Judges
We take a great deal of pride in selecting our judges. Fairness is our top priority. This is a very important job and we take it seriously. The judge’s names will be announced pageant weekend. Judges come from all walks of life. The panel of judges select who they feel will be the best representative of the contestants.
Physical Fitness Competition
You will wear a one-piece swimsuit with an optional sarong for the physical fitness competition. The swimsuit and sarong can be any color or style. A solid color looks best. The sarong can be long or short, sheer or solid. Shoes should be clear, or similar to the color of your skin. Judging is 25% of your total scoring. The scoring is determined on fitness, posture, beauty, and confidence. You may wear pantyhose.
Evening Gown Competition
Your gown must be floor length, any color or style, and includes an onstage question. Judging is 25% of your total scoring. The scoring is based on your poise, posture, grace, elegance, overall look, how well you carry yourself, as well as how well your choice of gown compliments you. Husbands, or escorts, will walk their contestant onto the stage during the evening gown competition and will be required to wear a black and white tux, suit, or service uniform. If the uniform requires a firearm, please let the director know. Permission is required from the police department.
Opening Production Cocktail Dress
The opening number for 2025 will be Black and White outfits of your choice. No frays, rips, or casual pieces. The combination should be easy to dance in. Shoes can be nude, silver, black, white, or black and white. This is not scored.
National State Costume
Each state Queen brings a costume that best represents an aspect of her state to the national pageant. There are some costumes available to borrow for Mrs. Washington America, Mrs. Washington AMERICAN, and Miss Washington for America Strong. Queens are welcome to create their own state costume.
Coaching
The staff helps every contestant succeed with free coaching and training by our former queens. The pageant also has generous connections who may be willing to lend or rent to you an evening gown, swimsuit, sarong, and/or an interview suit. Pageant staff helps you every step of the way!
Platform
A platform is something you do for someone, or for a group, that you are passionate about. You do not have to have a platform. It is always nice to do nice things in your community and there are many ways to do that. Volunteering in anyway on an ongoing basis can be very rewarding. We can help you come up with a platform for the pageant.
Hair and Make-up
Hair and makeup artists will NOT be allowed in the backstage area. You may have your makeup artists set up in your room. We will try to have volunteer hair and makeup artists at the hotel.
